Quoted: What is the best way to acquire a target while wearing a head mounted optic? A laser for the pistol, or night sights on the pistol? What about flash suppression, will it be necessary to use a flashhider on the pistol? Would muzzle flash be harmful to the tube, what about the glow from tritium night sights?

Great topic and good questions...Not much talked about on this subject!
A vis laser works well, but it usually is too bright and blooms the target a bit for CQB stuff. Now for IR lasers, I've actually tried a Vital-2 on a SA TRP and the Vital-2 fit PERFECT on the rail! It was almost like it was made for it.
The laser waorked very well for this purpose.
Flash on the handgun of course is huge and you will be blind for a 1/4 second or so. Rapid shots, even longer. The BEST way to go would be with a supressor of some sort. In regards to night sights. I've only tried looking at triji's and way too bright for NV work, lot's of halo around the night sights that made them unusable for me. Hope this helps,
