I submitted my first Form 1 yesterday. Had to install Firefox, as I have Windows 10 on my desktop.
While it was pretty painless, I did run into a problem that put my submission into Pending Research status. For some reason it either doesn’t like the Model number or the combination of Manufacturer and Model number. I can’t believe that I’m the first person that has registered an Ameetec Arms model WM-15, but it sure acted like it. I did upload a picture of the markings showing the model and serial number. Hopefully it doesn’t cause a rejection, because I’ve decided at a pretty late date to try and get this in under the 41F deadline. I did pay and got the confirmation email, but it has no Control or Reference number. Anyone with similar experiences? |
| Last month I had one go into "Research' mode right away too. Within a week an examiner should be looking at your form and either contacting you and/or just adjusting your form for you, then you'll see its been changed to "Submitted/Pending". That was my experience. I don't think that's a guarantee you won't get disapproved when the final review gets approved/denied, but I was happy to see mine get sent along its way and out of "Research" mode. I'm still waiting for approval so I can't comment on the final outcome of my application/Form1. |
| It won't get a Internal Control Number unless you provided one. It won't get a reference/permit number until it's actually Submitted. That's when it moves from Pending Research to Submitted/In Process. I've had it take a day or two, and I've seen it take a month or more. It'll stay in the Draft folder until it moves from PR to S/IP. |

| I got mine into pending research for using ar15.com lower, I submitted pictures of the markings and I got an email about it a month later from my examiner about it and she got it straightened out. You should get an email about it, and the status will change. Be warned, I submitted mine on 2/11ish and it took a month for her to get to it. Being this close to the deadline, I am sure the wait is longer. |

My Calico M900 Form 1 was pending research when filed on 01/04/16.
Mine was one from 1989 - Calico now calls them Liberty carbines. I submitted an explanation of when it was made and marketed. I've owned it since 1990. It was in process by 01/14/16. Approved 04/06/16. |

I had an Aero Precision model A15 lower go "Pending Research" for choosing to use 22 as the caliber. It took over a month to change to "Submitted" but when I viewed the form the manufacturer name was changed from "Aero Precision Inc, United States" to "Form 1 Registration, United States".
Like an idiot I thought that the ATF knew what they were doing and that the examiner that changed it was following protocol. A few months later I received the "Disapproved" status e-mail from the ATF with the reason: manufacturer name is incorrect. I politely informed them that my draft form was initially correct and I died a little inside when the new examiner asked if I knew who changed it. Luckily they were very accommodating and Mr. Clutter approved my re-submitted form immediately. Lesson Learned: Check the content of the Form 1 at each status change. |
