| Thinking of submitting a short barreled shotgun for my 870. Wanting to do a 12.5 inch barrel on it. Hoping someone can chime in that has already done this. On the over all length it would be 32.5 inches correct? |

If you're going to build it with your current stock, simply measure the current overall length and subtract the difference between whatever length barrel is currently on it and a 12.5" barrel. If you've got an 18" barrel, just take 5.5" off the current OAL. It's that simple.
Besides, if you're off by a small amount, even an inch or two, the folks at NFA Branch aren't going to come break down your door and shoot your dog. So long as it has an OAL <26" and/or a barrel length <18" and meets the statutory requirements of an SBS, you're in the clear. Once it's built, if you measure it and discover that your initial measurement is off and it bothers you that much, you can write a letter to NFA Branch, advising them of the change to the OAL of the SBS. It's not a requirement, though some BATFE employees will tell you it is, but you can do it. They're not going to send you a new Form 1 with the corrected length on it. They'll simply update the OAL in the NFRTR. |
| I bought a new production 870 Express shotgun with laminated furniture and a solid recoil pad. After taking measurements based on a 12.5" barrel, I came up with a measurement of 32.75". I plan to shorten the LOP later anyway, so I'm not too concerned. It can always go back to the dimensions its recorded as if necessary. |

I forget the model. I'll look tonight. |
