I just bought a Sears Ranger shotgun to make into a SBS.  For the research I've done it's a Savage 720 made for Sears.  I'll know more once it's delivered, but from everything I have seen and read there is no model number anywhere on the receiver, just a banner that says "Ranger."  Is it acceptable to use "Ranger" as the model number for the Form 1?  I plan to take pictures of the receiver and submit them as attachments.  Anyone had to deal with this before?

A quick google search turned up http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/ranger-double-barrel-shotgun-358317.html that might lead you in the right direction.

Pictures are good but you can also email ask the experts and they will tell you what to put down.

I tried your link, thanks.  No luck so far, I went deep into google and found Sears did use model numbers.  None of the cross reference guides had a match.  Found an ad for my shotgun in the Fall 1933 Sears catalog, no specific model there either.  I might have to actually open a book, going to look for old gun value guides at the library.

No luck at the library, none of the guides had anything other than a general write up on Sears firearms.  I have a post on the gun values board and sent the question into Ask the Experts on the ATF eForms site.

If there is a model designation stamped on the receiver, you must use exactly what is stamped.  If there is no model designation, put N/A on the form, provide pics to validate and move on.

ATF might require that you choose a model designation, and engrave it. Then it would be your choice.

The Jack First printed parts catalogs have a cross-reference list in the appendix which is fairly inclusive, more so than this one anyway: http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/catalog/cross_reference.html. There is no online version of their catalogs. Shotguns are one book (blue), then rifles, and pistols. A local gunsmith is likely to have a set.

Model is an "if designated" item. I submitted N/A for all my F1 cans and didn't engrave a model.

FYI, ATF replied and told me to put "none" for the model #.

I'd absolutely include a copy of that email with my submission. Just a tip.

I did an Eagle lower that didn't have a model, I just sent photos and an explanation and it went thru.

That would be good idea.

Or have "None" engraved as an SN
