I took home my new AOW Serbu Super Shorty today, and noticed on the Form 4 that the form was approved, but under the approval a condition was listed.  It states - "Condition: overall = 17.5".  I have two other tax stamps, one for a SBS and one for a suppressor, but have not seen this before.  If it is pertinent I have a trust set up in Texas for NFA items.  I'm curious if any of you gents or ladies have seen this before.  I've searched this website, Google, and the ATF NFA Handbook for any details, but can't seem to find anything.  Any information is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Did you put 17.5" down for the length?

Would changing the OAL change it to a different classification?

is it over 17.5" overall? if yes, carry on. if not, can you make it so? if not, keep quiet about it and don't post pics of it next to a ruler.

What OAL was put on the Form 4 application?

Thank you all for the comments. The Form 4 has 16.5" on the paperwork, and I did not alter the weapon in any way.  After a few hours of fruitless research, the best I can figure out is that maybe Serbu put 17.5" for OAL when it was originally registered as an NFA item, and the dealer I bought it from put it as 16.5" when it was sent to my local FFL/SOT to be transferred to me.  Maybe the NFA branch was merely correcting the paperwork to reflect the original manufacturer's dimensions.  I measured the weapon and if you measure from the barrel to the bottom of the installed grip it is 17.5", but if you measure to the top of the grip it is closer to 16.5".  It does have the 6.5" barrel so OAL should be 16.5".  I also compared it to a buddy's Serbu with the 16.5" OAL, and my barrel is a tad shorter than his.  Maybe Serbu had a new person measuring that day.  At the end of the day, I have zero interest drawing additional attention from the ATF, so I'm going to mind my own business and enjoy my new nightstand and maybe car gun.

The overall length of a firearm is the distance between the muzzle of the barrel and the rearmost portion of the weapon measured on a line parallel to the axis of the bore.

Sounds like yours may actually be 17.5"

I just picked up an Omega and it had a conditional approval too: "4c)Registered as .30 caliber" Hmmm.. I wonder if they are clamping down.
