| Hey guys, Im having a lot of difficulty trying to submit my first Form1. Ive read the stickies and a lot of posts as well as watched videos on YouTube. Ive tried my work computer (Internet Explorer 9) as well as my home computer (Mac OSX). Both are telling me I have the wrong software to use the ATF site. I see on the ATF stie that you should use IE8 or an older Safari. Are you guys running old software or did you fiugre out a way to get it to work? Im about to give up and go snail mail. Any hints? Can I downgrade my software just to fill out the form then upgrade again? HELP! |

My work laptop happens to be IE8 (thanks AT&T Pretty sure you can just use compatibility mode and get through it, though I've never done it. Thanks guys! Let me try Compatability Mode and see if that works. Im a Mac guy so this Windows stuff kills me. Thanks again! |

That worked, thanks fo all your help guys. One other question, my trust name is long and wont fit in the Trade Name space. Is it ok to abbreviate any of it or just keep typing until I run out of space? You don't put it in the Trade Name field. Just the Licensee field. I think it maxes at 50 characters. The ATF provides this info: Name Field Length Limitation Forms 1, 4 and 5 If the trust or corporate name for an eForm 1, 4 or 5 exceeds 50 characters, you will not be able to submit the application. The trust or corporate names are the entries made in the Licensee/Permittee Name on eForm 1 or as the transferee Business Name on eForms 4 or 5. For example, a trust entitled ‘THE JOHN JAMES DOE AND MARY ANN DOE REVOCABLE LIVING TRUST’ will prevent the submission of the application due to the length of the name. Typically, the form will close when you submit and bring you back to the carousel. You may receive an error message or a message that the application has submitted but it remains in the draft folder. To preclude this error, an acceptable way to decrease the number of characters is to replace ‘REVOCABLE LIVING’ with ‘RL’ as an acceptable abbreviation for the purposes of the application. Thus, the above cited trust would be shown as ‘THE JOHN JAMES DOE AND MARY ANN DOE RL TRUST’ as the applicant maker or transferee. Please spell out as much of the trust or LLC name as possible within the 50 character limitation. Please keep this in mind when submitting the applications. Remember...that doesn't impact what you have to engrave. |

They simply allow the abbreviations in EForms due to system limitations. As a note: put the trust name as Licensee, but when you view the form, you'll see it is automatically populated into the Trade Name field as well. |
