Has anyone had any luck submitting a form 4 while the form 3 is in the works? With the current form 3 times I have about 2-3 weeks left and I may be heading back to work (sea) early. My C3 Dealer (buddy) has a copy of the form 3's and I was thinking about having all the paperwork submitted by the end of the week. Any one have any kick backs? I know the check is cashes ASAP and then it's roughly another 4-6 weeks before the item is logged as pending.

ATF frowns on the practice.

That being said, I've had three different dealers here in NC submit the F4 the day after the F3 was submitted, and didn't have any issues. (They were all for suppressors, and since my trust was the applicant, there was no requirement for me to sign...so it would've all been on the dealer if the F3 had issues and the F4 came up for approval first )

I was somewhat tempted to do the same after you mentioned it before but I'm a little leery now that they got rid of the trouble(?) status. Maybe it's still ok but I've now had multiple form 3's lost so I'm a little apprehensive of trying to do both at the same time.

When was the problem status revoked?  I got an email form my local FFL/SOT just this week that the online retailer I bought some things from had misspelled his name, creating a problem status.  Called them and they had already submitted a correction and said they'd more than likely have the response as F3 approved by the end of next week, since all else was good.

Also, the same local FFL/SOT had me email this same online retailer to see if they'd forward me the F3's to give to him to start the F4 process.  Done and done and F4s for 6 suppressors are now cashed and pending, while still pending approval of F3 and to mail to my local FFL/SOT.

I'm like 90% certain BigWaylon and I use the same FFL in NC to process some of our NFA stuff.  He is a wizard with a sixth sense.

It was discussed in this thread.

I know Scott @ Tar Heel was told that at SHOT by one of the Section Chiefs, so it's fairly new...just not sure it's enforced consistently.

It seems that in the threat that BigWaylon linked above, people are still(even though a smaller scale) getting problem statuses.  In that thread, the OP states that the NFA representative told him that they tweak the system based on user(our) feedback.

With this being said, in addition to what BW said about it being a new announcement from his FFL at shot, that this may be a trial run to see how taking problem status away will affect the approval pipeline.  May not have been implemented completely, more like a "soft opening" per se now.

If it's not popular with users and does not make efficient the process on the NFA processors end, then they may revert back to the original way.  Hard to speculate, and I have no insider knowledge, but just my viewpoint on people having problem status, like myself, after they "did away" with its use.

I was sooo annoyed today. My dealer is a great guy but he sometimes doesn't realize all of the rules. I asked if I could submit my form 4 before my Tirant arrived and he refused. It's literally getting delivered Monday but I am going out of the country for 3-4 weeks. Ohh well.....on the upside, he is nice, $35 nfa transfers, and he let me shoot one of his guns while i was over his house.
