So I purchased my first suppressor on Black Friday and the dealer mailed in my paperwork (Form 4, trust) on 12/01/14. I know I have to be really patient and what not, but about how long does it take for the check to post and what should I expect after that? Is it worth calling and bothering them a month after the check has cleared? I've seen people post 'pending' and different status updates. How are those acquired what are the general wait times between the different status updates?
Thanks. |
| Check should clear within a couple months usually but sometime it takes longer. Right now youre looking at a 7month wait so sometime around the beginning of July you should get the stamp back but could easily be longer. I know i had a form 4 approved and stamped on Oct 31st and it was almost thanksgiving by time the form showed up in the mail at my dealer. |

What are you going by? On NFA Tracker, it looks like most of the F4 Trust for silencers sent in August are coming back now with stamps. So 4 months. But I realize volume and wait time could have been increased over the past few months. My dealer told me I could expect about 5 months. |

From what I've seen online on various forums, most people are seeing 4-5 months. |
| My experience has been the check clearing in 2-4 weeks. My last two cans were approved in 4.5-5 months after submitting the Form 4. You should be able to get a pending date 2-4 weeks after the check clears, after that you just have to wait until it's approved or it gets returned for an error. |

You figure out the "pending date" if you call the ATF in WV and ask for the status of your form.
What the pending date tells you is basically nothing, but I guess it's another official data point - means the application has been entered into the system and is now awaiting review by an examiner. Sometimes the pending date changes, for various reasons, not all of which have an authoritative explanation. Average wait time on paper forms seems to be down to about 6-7 months again, from mailing date to stamp received, and closer to six than seven. I'm getting back paper F4s now that were filed in early July. |

I had one check clear in about 1 week after mailing it out and another was 3-4 months after sending the form, it can vary greatly i think. |
