So I have secured a source for a Demo letter and would like to not have to continue to go back for each item so I will have them list multiples on one letter (understanding the letter is only valid for a year). My question is that does it have to state the actual manufacture of the item? For example with so many AR companies out there, and being able to have a local 07/02 I can work with on conversion would the letter have to state "Colt M16" or can it just state "M16" and use whichever I am able to locate the best price on ( or have a lower converted/built). Same issue with a AK-47. So many various sources and I have an AK guru who can also do a conversion (07/02).

Yes,  it's usually type, manufacturer, model and caliber.  Especially with something like an AK47 or M16 style, I don't know anyone who is getting love letters approved with generic  anymore.

If it's an 07/02 build or conversion, you're usually going to have to have a letter with that 07/02 manufacturer's name engraved on the firearm and on the love letter.

There are just so many AK countries, variants and styles. I know typically it would be easier to find what you're planning on buying then having the letter for that item, but I'm kind of going backwards of sorts with having the letter then looking. The M16 in fine with as you can find colts pretty easily, just not so much with the AK platform.

Agreed.  You used to be able to get away with saying "AK-74 or variant" but now the ATF wants it to be very specific.  Even saying "Colt M16" isn't good enough.  The want "Colt M-16 A1."  Basically the ATF wants exactly what was on the form the current owner has.

Well, just one thought - assuming you already know what 07/02 you might want to use, you can work with them in advance.  So if you're manufacturer is "Super Awesome Armory" you can work out a model name in advance with them.  You use the "new" manufacturer, not the original when you do a conversion.  So decide in advance that you want an "M16" and ask them in advance to plan on engraving their name and model as:  "SAA-16" or whatever.  Then once you get your letter approved, go pick out whatever lower receiver you think looks prettiest, and have them engrave it with that info.  Same thing, your AK could be SAA-47 or whatever.  Just one option.
