So I am a little in the dark on this one. I looked at the other threads in here and most all of the pics look to be ingrained into the lower. My brother just had his done at a shop and it is raises white letters. The guy said it would not come off and to use the alumna-Hyde stuff to make it darker.
Does this should right?
That you in advance.
No to go renew my membership... Guess that pop up did not remind me.

NFA engraving has specific depth specs that must be met.   The engraving must be .003" deep.  There is no spec for raised letter if that is indeed what he has.  It is best to send it or take it to someone who actually knows what they are doing.

Thank you for the reply sir.

Looking at the pics I see most are cut into the receiver and some are above just darkened...

I am hope he used  someone quality and not a fly by night place. Knowing him... Cheap..

Thank you again

Based in your description, he's out of compliance.

7.4.3 Measuring the depth of markings. The depth of all markings is measured from the flat surface of the metal and not the peaks or ridges. The height of serial numbers is measured as the distance between the latitudinal ends of the character impression bottoms (bases).

ETA: I don't know how the ATF feels in regards to colorfill jobs where the depth is not the same as it was after the initial engraving.
