| Can a SBS have the stock interchanged for a pistol grip (rear) or would that render it an AOW? confused here. |

Can a SBS have the stock interchanged for a pistol grip (rear) or would that render it an AOW? confused here. If it had a stock and a smoothbore barrel on it, it's a shotgun, so any firearm made from it would be "made from a shotgun" and result in its still being classified as an SBS if the barrel was less than 18" or the OAL less than 26". That's why a so-called "virgin receiver" is required to make an AOW out of a pistol gripped shotgun with OAL < 26" or barrel < 18". |

Ok, let me simplify it, i'm getting more confused; Can this if registered as a SBS ($200) EVER have the stock taken off and replaced with a pistol grip without changing it to AOW. |

That's already an SBS because it has a stock. An AOW must be made from a receiver that never had a stock and never will have a stock (unless you pay the $200 to make it into an SBS, at which point you cannot go back). TTBOMK, you can remove the stock from a registered SBS if you choose, but I'd wait for someone who knows SBS/AOWs better as I've mainly been focusing on SBRs and cans. |
