Sorry for my ignorance but all of the reading I am doing on the ATF website has me more confused than anything so I will get straight to the point.

I have a carbine 16" upper, no flash hider, just a full 16" barrel, can I put this on a pistol lower and still be classified as a pistol?  I would assume it has to come in under 26" but I don't have a pistol lower on hand to check the length.  Or does the 16" barrel on the pistol lower classify it as something else?

My reasoning is I have an alternative deer season coming up this weekend in my state and when checking the zero on my muzzle loader I think it is time to move on.  The ML was not grouping very well at 100 yards.  If I have to I will use it but limit myself to an acceptable accuracy range of about 50 yards but Missouri does allow pistols.  I can add a pistol lower to my collection and then save up for the muzzle loader I want for next year.  Thanks in advance.

16" barrel on a pistol lower is OK.

This.  But OP, does Missouri allow .223 for deer, or does it, like most states, have a .243 minimum caliber requirement?

I believe New Mexico has a minimum only for elk.

If you put a 16" barrel on a pistol or virgin lower it would cease to be a pistol as it would not meet the definition of concealability most likely ( >26" OAL).

That's irrelevant. It still falls outside the definition of any NFA regulated item. What it IS doesn't matter, as long as it ISN'T something covered by NFA.

Actually it is as he was stating his intent was to hunt with it during a season that allows handguns. It is not a handgun.
