| Just received my first stamp. its a trust done sbr. my question is I haven't put it in a schedule a. or put the stock on it yet. can I legally give the lower to my father in law to take it to work and engrave it for me? |

If he takes just the receiver, or the complete firearm in a configuration that does not meet the definition of an SBR, then yes - no problem. Dan. |

Yes, it is a good idea to have it engraved BEFORE you make it an NFA firearm. yes I understand that but this was my first item and I have access to a local engraver. what makes it a NFA firearm? the stamp when it comes back approved or actually configuring it as a NFA item. that's why I was trying to figure out since its not in my schedule a inside the trust yet or have the stock or configured as SBR yet. that is still just a stripped lower receiver that I shouldn't have any issues giving it to him to engrave and then get it back |

Get it engraved, then put the upper on. Now you have an NFA Firearm and should add it to your schedule. A stripped lower is just that, a non-NFA firearm that you can give to him as long as he is not a prohibited person, or living in another state, etc. |
