I was looking at picking up a Colt sp-1 (1977). The gun is auto sear ready. it comes with 14mags, scope/mount, 400 rounds.
what do you think is a fare price to pay for it? the condition i would say is good to excellent. my second question is how hard is it and how much is a auto sear for it? I do understand needing to tax stamp it with the auto sear. Any other thought would be appreciated.... |
| That rifle is worth between 12 to 24 hundred depending on what the owner wants to sell for, if its an SP1 than it has NO forward assist or shell deflector. It might have a 1/12 rifled barrel which is perfect for 55gr. The mags alone are worth at least 20 dollars each. |

my second question is how hard is it and how much is a auto sear for it? A registered drop in auto-sear (RDIAS) sells for about $15,000, plus a $200 stamp and a 6 month wait. You can usually find them for sale on subguns.com. If you are looking for an authentic, Vietnam era M16, you might be better off just buying a registered Vietnam era M16. |

dias are around 12-15k Not any more. The current market price of an RDIAS is $20k. I haven't seen one under that in months, and I know of several that have sold for more than that. If the OP wants full-auto, today it's way cheaper to just buy a registered receiver.

OP, if you're serious, you may want to consider a RLL (Registered Lighting Link) as well, it doesn't require any M16 parts as does the RDIAS. RLL's are approx $7-9K in today's market. This is most likely what is meant by auto sear ready. The Lighting Link was made for SP1's |

Well, let's clarify before scaring the poor guy. OP, if the rifle is set to physically fit a RDIAS, it's totally legal. If it has any full auto lower receiver parts in it, those need to go away and be replaced with semi-auto parts. If the mystical third hole is stilled above the safety/selector on the lower receiver, it's 100% illegal unless papered. If not papered, there's no way to legall fix it- run. Mike |

Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: I am hoping he meant Registered Drop In Auto Sear. If it is RDIAS ready, it is illegal. You are wrong on that, RDIAS ready does NOT involve drilling the hole, so a RDIAS ready is good to go. No I am not wrong. RDIAS-ready would imply all M16 parts are there but the RDIAS. That is an illegal gun. ETA: Factory SP-1s are only Auto-Connector Ready. |
