I am considering selling a suppressor that I own and have on a form 4 in my name.

One question I have is, is there a $200 tax to me and another to the buyer?

Can someone detail the steps involved with selling, both in state (Virginia) and out of state?

Is there a web page somewhere that has this info?

Thanks in advance.

If you sell instate there is only one $200 tax.
You and the buyer would submit a form 4, wait for the approval, then the buyer could take possession. When the money changes hands is up to the two of you.

If selling out of state you would have to send in a form 4 to transfer to a dealer in the buyer's state. This costs $200. Then the buyer would have to do another form 4 from his dealer to him. Another $200.

The end result is if instate add $200, if out of state add $400.

Separately, there's not much of a used suppressor market, so you may have trouble selling it.. Suppressors are not expensive enough to warrant the hassles and risks of a used one. You never really know what you're buying since its difficult to determine wear or the internal condition of most.
