Clearly I'm a noob at this, but here goes...
Why does the transfer process take so long? Is the background check that different from the regular NICS firearm purchase check? I just completed my paperwork for a can today and I'm reading every thread in this forum I can to learn. Thank you for any answers. |

I applied using a trust. Will they do a background check on each person listed? I was just wondering if it was more onerous than the NICS check, due to the long turnaround times. It just doesn't seem like it should take much longer than a regular firearm purchase, just keeping the record of transaction/paper form vs. disposing of NICS background check after approval.
Thank you for the reply Chris. |

Only a check on the main person on the trust - I belive that is called the executor. The person who can add or take off other people from the trust.
Since that is possible after the Class III weapon has been tranfered to the trust, it's my understanding they don't do a BC on the other members. Could be wrong through. As for the wait, it's best to imagine it as a roller coaster ride. It's not that the ride takes 2 hours, it's that there are 1000's of people ahead of you, and then the ride is 2 minutes. For NFA, it's 5 months, 29 days, 23 hours, 55 minutes to get your packet in front of the examiner, then 5 minutes for them to do it. |
