Submitted paperwork back in May.  I haven't called to check on anything since then.  What's the phone number to call and what should I be saying/asking?

ATF's NFA branch at (304) 616-4500

Me - "Hi, I'm calling to check on the status of an NFA item"
ATF Operator - "What is the serial number of the item and name on the application?"

On a form 4 they may, not on a form 1.
On a lark, just called the number on one of mine pending.
Mailed off 26 Mar, pending 4 Jun (knew already), first time ever the operator tells me...looks like a December approval.
Damn, they are either slowing down or my inspector is fucking with me.

ETA - spelling

This is for an SBR so it' would be a Form 1 correct?

Oh god, not cool and not good.. they say that they have no record of anything pending... Jesus Christ.  Time to dig up a money order return stub?   What do I do here... I had tracking on the original envelope that was sent to them and it showed up as 'arrived'... Not sure I have all of the original receipts.

Yeah that is not good.  Did you make a copy of the form to make sure you had the serial number down correctly.

There are still forms that went out in march that have not come back, but it should definitely be in the system by now.

I have the one lower receiver in front of me that is the one / has the correct # on it.  I have the original tracking stub from USPS that says that the item was delivered (the paperwork). and It turns out it was May, not March.  Did not make a physical copy of the paperwork. Searching right now for a possible money order stub.

Is it possible you put the serial number on the form 1 incorrectly?

Not a chance.  I triple checked that mother and had a few other eyes look as well.

I would call em back. Maybe the operator is

I hate to rub it in more, but this is the reason you should use a personal check.

Going to give a ring tomorrow and try again with a different op.  Will use personal checks in the future obviously.  However, I should hope that my tracking # saying it was delivered should account for something if anything..

They can probably look up your application based on the name. I had a brain fart one time and was off by one digit on the SN (form and receiver matched, I memorized it wrong), and they were able to look up all of my pending apps based on my trust name.

did you submit as an individual or as a trust. When I called to get a pending date I just gave my name and nothing pulled up, well that's because I used a trust... duh

The same thing happened to me a couple of months ago.
They had entered the serial number wrong into their system.
It took about 5 min on the phone with someone to figure it out. I think his first name was Robert.
Call them back and explain the situation, they were very helpful when I called.
