Got two approved forms back for our customers this morning. (6 months and a few days for those that keep track)

Noticed that the NFA has gone from a tax stamp to a glossy tax sticker. Same size and design just a glossy slick faced sticker, the examiner wrote the SN on it with a permanent black marker. Just a "cool story bro" post, I thought it was interesting.

That's interesting. I seem to remember someone recently claiming that all the stamps we'd been.getting we're printed in the 1930s or something.  Was that hokum or did they just run out?

Really? You have any photos of it? I just got six back on Sat. They are all still stamps.

No, I didn't think about taking a picture. The two customers have already picked up their cans and paperwork, something about that 6 month wait makes then anxious to come in as soon as they get the call...

that sure is interesting

I just got 2 back and they are actual stamps as well

still waiting on 3 more

One of the customers is a regular, he should be stopping in again soon. I will see if he will send me a picture of his stamp, and I will edit it and post it here.

If this is really the case, then ATF ran out of old-issue NFA $200 stamps, and B.E.P. has issued a new self-adhesive variant for 2012.

i have heard this also from some recent lucky ones, but i have not seen them yet

Indifferent, doesn't really matter one way or the other.  Just a bit of gee whiz info.

I believe it would actually make the older style stamps more collectable for the stamp collectors?

When I say stamp collectors I mean actual collector of stamps not collector of guns that require a stamp

good point, about about AOW stamps???

Found a post on SilencerForum showing the new style stamp. Not my pic, but that is what the new stamps look like.

Definitely a new issue, self-adhesive stamp.  Note it now says United States Department of Justice , instead of United States Internal Revenue. Old stamps were series of 1934.  The series is blacked out in that photo, but will show the revision date when we can get a look at one.

This is from Uzi Talk, Its two weeks after the one on SH.

Still says IRS

That's still another old one.

Well that sucks.  I was hoping to get an old one.. ya know, for nostalgic value.  Maybe I should call in and cancel

I looked in our records and pulled the photocopy of the approved form. There is no series on the new stamps, the "Series" box has been deleted from the new design.

The initials are different on those two, so at least one examiner has run out of old stamps and is now using new ones.

SS still has some old ones, but CS (maybe GS?) is using the new ones...

Huh.  I have a recently approved F4 and have the old stamp.

Maybe my soon to be coming F1 will have the new stamp.

So now everyone needs to post date of approval, new or old stamp and name of examiner so we can figure out who still has the old ones and how long till they run out.

Just got one in yesterday that has the new stamp.  Glossy finish.  Self adhesive.

Kinda neat having one of each.

My suppressor (approved 2/29/12, my first) is the old style.  I have three more pending.  Nice to know I will have at least one of the older ones since by the time my three that went pending in January are approved I expect all the old ones will be gone.

My AOW $5 stamp is also the new style. I didn't notice until I read this thread.

Someone should thoroughly check the new stamps for one of those magnetic satellite tracking strips.

How is the new style stamp any less of a stamp than the old style stamp? The Post Office started issuing postage stamps with a sticky back years ago and they are still stamps.

I just got in new AOW Stamp and new $200 Stamp.  They are both the new sticker kind.  But two weird things about the AOW stamp:

1) They didn't cancel it

2) It still says "United States Internal Revenue" instead of "United States Dept of Justice" like the new $200 stamp says.

An uncancelled stamp. I have never seen one. I bet collectors would love that..

Because the ATF was under the IRS originally?

The older $200 paper stamps still said IRS on them.... The newly revised stickers say DOJ.  I think Chris is wondering why they didn't do the same for the $5 stamps.

I would guess that they have had a few rolls/books etc.. of the self adhesive $5 stamps before ATF was rolled under the DOJ and are just now getting to them.

ATF was folded into DOJ is 2003.  This is the first time we're seeing these adhesive stamps.  Doubtful that's the case.

Also, ATF was under the Treasury Department prior to 2003 but the $200 stamps were never updated to reflect that.  It's just strange they changed one stamp when going to adhesives but not the other.
