I am planning on purchasing a supressor in the next few months.  I just had my gun trust drawn up and was wondering how payments works.  If I go to a local Class 3 dealer and start the process, do they help me fill out the paper work?  Do you normally pay for the supressor up front, then once you get the stamp, they give you the item?  Or, do you send the paperwork away and once you get the stamp, then pay for the item?  I want to go into the store knowing what to expect.

Depends on the store I'd guess. I've been going to the same shop for about 7 years and know the owners that I bought my suppressors from... I put down a deposit and just payed the rest off over a couple paychecks. I don't know if they do the same for everyone. I'm sure most places would want their money up front.

My shop did the Form 4... all I had to do was sign.

If the can is in stock at your dealer, you'll pay up front.  The dealer will walk you through the paperwork and then will give you instructions on what to do from there.  You'll then make your check out to the DOJ and send your $200 and paperwork on to the ATF.  You'll wait for what feels like an eternity (but it is really only a few months) while the ATF does their dance.  Your stamp will come to your dealer and you'll get a phone call that you're now free to come pick up your stamp and can.
