My local gunshop cant get a gemtech G5 in a reasonable time. They told me gemtech cant get them one for over 6 weeks. I have found one on line and asked what they would charge me for a transfer. He seemed to cop an attitude and told me it would be $150.00. I am a complete NFA newb but this sounds a little high. What is the going rate....I do spend a lot of money in his shop BTW. |

Quoted: I have no problem waiting. Wont it be 6 weeks till I can even fill out the form 4, then another 3 months wait. Besides, he quoted me a price of$1050.00 when i found it for 875 down in houston online. $75.00 here If you can't wait 6 weeks, you shouldn't get into NFA. Most transfers are 3 months (some more) once the item gets to your dealer. Will |

Well then, make a day of it and drive there to pay and do the paperwork.. or pay the man his $875, get the paperwork and move forward, then when approved, make a road trip and pick it up.. I gots friend in south central Ohio that bought a something at Cousino's,,, ADCO's neighbor.. fella drove somthing like 4-5hr up there, then drove home.. |
| The most I have paid is $100; $150 is too much in my opinion. Where are you located? Maybe someone in the same area can suggest a different dealer. Also, I would check with the Major and see what his price is. He is hard to beat. |

When he said 6 weeks to order, Does he mean he will have them in hand in 6 weeks? Or in 6 weeks Gem Tech will have the cans serialised so he can then order them, then wait, wait, approved, shipped to him. Then he has them in hand, THEN you start you paper work, and wait , wait, ???? |

I just asked the same question recently:

Gemtech is taking about 6 weeks to get stuff out. And that is in stock items. Its not like your dealer isn't trying for you, you have to remember there is form 3 transfer built into the time frame. Even if you bought a can online today, your dealer would have to send them his FFL/SOT(which could take a day or two) the dealer you bought it from would have to fill out the form(another day or so) fax it in, or mail it(another couple days if mailed) Then the ATF has to add it to the pile. And approve the transfer to your dealer(one day to a month) then mail it back to the dealer you bought it from(saying it doesn't get lost on someones desk, 5 days at the least) then that dealer has to mail it to your dealer(another couple of days). Then you can go do your end of the paperwork. How much time would you save by ordering it online? |

I've seen fees as low as $25, and as high as 10% of the price of the item being transferred, even for machine guns. When a local dealer does that I ask the seller to list the invoice as a negative price . When I ask the dealer for my money I get a ![]() |

Well, the dealer sent me an email today. He will sell me the G5 for 895 bucks. Better than his partner quoted me $1050. He says he wont get it for about 6 weeks. I went ahead and had him order it. I didnt realize it took as long to get from Gemtech to my local dealer. I guess there is still ATF queep that has to be done between them, then i go thru the whole form 4 stuff when it gets in. Thanks for the replys. |

Thanks for the replys. Yup. whenever a class 3 weapon changes "ownership" the feds need to approve it. Form 3's from manufacturer to dealer can take anywhere from a week to whenever. Will |

| For future reference a shop in state here about 2hrs away told me if I wanted to buy a can they stocked we could do everything by phone and mail the only time I would have to drive there would be to pick up the can. So you could always call up a store and ask them if you could go that way. |

The six weeks from Gemtech sounds about right, mine took about that long. |

My indoor range's transfer prices are ridiculous ($75 for non-NFA, $150 for NFA IIRC, paid upfront before the Form 3) and they usually charge MSRP for items, but for my first two suppressors (bought as a pair), I thought it was worth the cost to buy from them so I could shoot them weekly. They always wonder why I Form 1 all of my SBR/SBS stuff now.
