| Ok I'm activating soon for a deployment to afghan and I want to be able to buy multiple NFA items while away from home. I would like to be able to have someone here (CT) do all the paperwork and things that require the buyer to do. I already plan on making a trust with my brother but he recently has shown no interest in doing anything for me or to start a trust while I'm gone on just training. Can the dealer submit all the forms for me while I'm gone? I would just pay him the $200 and maybe a but extra for doing it for me. I don't have anyone else I could rely on for this as I planned on my brother but that isn't working. I guess he has a problem with me buying expensive guns and suppressors for him to play with while I'm gone or something. |
| If your brother isn't interested in helping, then most likely you are going to be SOL. Someone who is a trustee of the trust will have to sign the paperwork. I mean, I guess maybe your dealer will let you pre-sign a bunch of F4's, and he can fill them out as need be. You'd also need copies of your trust for him, as well as signed cert of compliance. I don't know that many shops would be ok with that, but maybe if you were pretty close with one, or you pay them enough. Worth a shot I guess. |

It's easy you just have to find a dealer willing to help you out. You buy the supressor over the phone, you send them the trust, they fill out form 4 and mail it to you for the signature, you sign it and send a copy of your trust, a check or money order for $200, and the form 4 to the ATF and a few months later your approved. The dealer holds onto the supressor for you and you pick it up when you get back.
ETA: It takes a little bit longer because all the mailing back and forth but you have time on your hands. If your deploying for a year just wait until you have about 5 months leftt and start the process so the dealer doesn't have to hold on to the can or cans for 9 months. |

Get tour trust paper work done while you are here. Get it notarized and keep that with you. Work with dealers in the area you choose to buy from. Let them know that you will be buying while being deployed.
When the time is right, your ready to buy or the dealer has the item you want. You can print off Form 4's , and citizenship forms from the internet, fill them out as much as you can (name, address, silencer, serial number, manufacturer,) and mail it with a copy of the trust and two checks. One check to the Dealer for the purchase of the silencer and the other check for $200 to the BATF. When the dealer get your form4's, he should fill out any missing info, sign it and mail it to the BATF for you. Use personal checks so that you can keep track of your money. IE when the BATF starts the paperwork and as proof of purchase if the dealer decides to scam you. If you have time now before your deployed, go ahead and buy it now and it will be waiting for you when you get back. |
