DEAD HORSE KICKING TIME...
Just want to check the address prior to mailing my first 2 SBR Form 1s off: National Firearms Act Branch Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives 244 Needy Road Ste. 1250 Martinsburg, WV 25405-9431 And to include with each Application: (1) Check Payable to BATFE for $200 (2) 5330 Cert of Compliance (2) 5320-1 (Form 1s) - Signed by CLEO and me (2) Passport Photos (2) Fingerprint Cards (1) Copy of my Maryland State Police Firearms Training Certificate (it is a MD thing, and they will likely toss it) (1) A nice letter Does it help to mention things like, if you have DOD clearance? Did I miss anything? I am excited, got the call today after only a week, and my CLEO signed my forms and I can go pick them up, here in MD I have heard rumors of 3+ months of waiting for CLEOs to sign... |

They will just cash your check and run your prints. Most of the wait time would be the forms sitting in a stack on the desk until they get to it. It probably aint even worth your time including a letter.
You only need one 5330 Cert of Compliance saying your a US citizen, even if you send in a whole bunch of forms in a packet. 1 citizenship form 2 fingerprint cards per packet. |

MD training certificate and nice letter are not required by ATF, they just want the forms (with pictures glued on), cert of compliance (one copy), finger prints, and the check. No explanation or introduction needed, they know what the forms are and what you want to do with them.

It probably aint even worth your time including a letter. Just out of curiosity, why do people include letters or cover letters? "Dear ATF Examiner, Here is all my paperwork. I'm planning on building a short barreled rifle. I'm getting it to enhance my collection, but I will also target shoot with it. Someone told me I could put my abbreviated trust name on my form 1, I hope thats okay? When I get the rifle I'll probably name it Betsy. I also own other AR lowers that I have 16" uppers for, please don't come find me later and shoot my dogs. The End." I don't mean to be (overly) sarcastic, but isn't it just extra paperwork in a process thats already burdened with it? |

You are probably right, but at the same time it is nice to have something that says here is what you are looking at, you stupid slow ATF employee. Remember this is our government and even if there was a instant digital 100% secure data base for all of this stuff it would still take 3+ months, just because. I will likely leave out the fluff, but I still really want to put zombie hunting or chicks dig em on my form... |
