I've read through various posts and the FAQs but just wanted to make sure of a couple of things before I jump into the SBR world. I'd like to pick up a Colt 6921 but will probably have to purchase it from out of state. The closest Class III dealer (that I'm aware of) is 2-3 hours away (this is for Colorado btw, not Hawaii). Is it possible to transfer NFA from Class III to non-C3 dealer?
Secondly, the 6921 ships between dealers via a Form 3 correct? Is any input needed from me or is the Form 3 strictly between dealers? Is the process of transferring the SBR between dealers as lengthy as everything else NFA right now? |

Is it possible to transfer NFA from Class III to non-C3 dealer? If an NFA item is transferred from an SOT (Class 3) dealer to a regular (non-C3) dealer, it must transfer on a Form 4, which requires a $200 tranfer tax. That means there's an extra $200 that someone must pay. Secondly, the 6921 ships between dealers via a Form 3 correct? Is any input needed from me or is the Form 3 strictly between dealers? Is the process of transferring the SBR between dealers as lengthy as everything else NFA right now? Form 3 transfers (SOT to SOT) have also slowed down, but they still take about half the time of a Form 4 transfer. |

Thanks for the input tony_k, I'd just like to clarify one other thing for now. Does my Class 3 need me physically present to fill out any info for the Form 3 transfer?
The reason I ask is because I am coming home (to Colorado) on leave for about a week toward the end of October. I'd like to locate a 6921 or 6933 now, pay for it, and have the Form 3 process already started so that maybe the SBR will be waiting for me when I come home. Then I can hop over to my Class 3 and fill out the paperwork for the Form 4. Is that possible and is that time frame (roughly 2 months) even plausible? |

Form 3 is a dealer to dealer transfer. You dont have anything to do with that and there is nothing for you to do except pay for the item and make sure the receiving FFL/SOT knows its coming and for you. After it gets to the local FFL, of course you have the Form 4, waiting, etc.
Time frame for a form 3 three months ago was 2.5 weeks for me. |

The Form 3 should clear within 2 months. |
