What's the correct way to remove items from the NFA registry that are no longer considered NFA items (ie:  SBR that no longer has a barrel shorter than 16").

Is it possible to store NFA items in a non friendly NFA State if they aren't in NFA configuration ( ie: registered SBR stripped lower)?

Thanks.

Found a letter here.

BATFE Request for Removal

I know this is probably rare, but if someone else needs it:

RE: Removal of a SBR/SBS from the NFRTR

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to advise the NFA Branch that a [Short Barreled Shotgun OR Short Barreled Rifle] previously registered by me on a Form 1 has been permanently returned to a Title I status firearm. I am  respectfully requesting that the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR) be modified to reflect this change in status. Lastly, I am sending this letter in duplicate and request that one copy be returned to me along with a letter stating that NFRTR has been modified to reflect the change in status.

Name & location of original manufacturer: _______________________

Type of firearm: ____________________

Caliber, Gauge or Size: ______________

Model: _______________

Length of barrel: ___________ (now returned to (?)")

Length overall: ___________ (now (?)")

Serial number: ____________

Thanking you in advance, I am

And the other thing I saw on that site I thought interesting was this letter.

So why couldn't you permanetly move an AR lower that's in the registry as an SBR to a non-friendly NFA state and store it until you move back to an NFA friendly state?
