For marking the part myself, what is the minimum letter height?  It's got to be small if some places are doing it on the front of the mag well.

It must be readable and 0.003" deep, there is no defined height requirement for name/city/state IIRC, only for serial numbers. 1/8" is pretty tiny.

I could swear that I read no less than 1/16th" somewhere... I would do it 1/8" for height just to be safe though.

I had my Sig 556 engraved a few weeks ago.  Jason @ Identmarkings is Rockwall, TX did an awesome job.  These letters are .074".  They are so small, you can barely see them.
