Is there any way you can register a SBR to multiple people?
Like, if a father and son, both fully legal to own a SBR... Live near each other... Just need one SBR to play with on the range...
The way I understand this... whichever one has it registered to, would have to go to the range very time it is used. So, if it is registered to the son, the father would have to take the son with him to shoot it. Could it not be registered to multiple individuals, a sort of joint ownership?
Also... I read something about NFA items needing to be in your control at all times. So... Do you suddenly become a felon or something if someone robs your home and takes the NFA item? Of course, reasonable care in securing it can be made... but safes can be pried open, etc, whatever... are you in deep trouble if it gets stolen? Is it different if you can show you made a good effort to keep it secured?
And, finally, just to make sure.... SBR is a Form 1, right?
PS... Typically, how long does it take to get the Forms returned after being submitted?

Also, does the stamp have to be with the rifle at all times? If so, What is the best way to do this?

What if one of your sons is not 21... Could you add him later? Need to resubmit the paperwork?

you cant "register" it to several people, but you can get the tax stamp under a trust or a cooperation and list other persons as members of the trust or corporation.

my wife is listed in my cooperate structure; that way it can be in her trunk or if my rifle was in my truck she could drive my truck without me and technically be in possession of the SBR.

someone will be along shortly to clear up my lack of details, i just did this myself.

Don't they keep a registry of SBRs?

I thought they did, which is why I have avoided the issue for a long time.

Good information here.

I recently filed for SBR and another for a suppressor. Both are Individual Forms (a Form 1 for the construction of a SBR, and a Form 4 for transfer of the Suppressor).

I have an additional question regarding who is listed on a Trust type NFA form:  Do the Trustees need to be living in the same State?   I ask because My Son is an avid gun enthusiast but lives several states away (these ARE allowed in his state).  If I had set up a Trust and made my NFA forms out listing ABC Trust as the owners of these toys and both My Son and I were listed as Trustees,  then could either of us legally posses and fire the SBR?

Any item requiring a tax stamp has its information in the NFA database, including manufacturer, all previous owners and the current owner.
