| If I filed my form 1 using my full name (middle name included) do I have to engrave it with my middle name? |
It can read "H J Simpson Trust". In fact, that is my recommendation. BATFE regs allow "generally recognized abbreviations". In my opinion, "RLT" is not a generally recognized abbreviation -- i.e., ask 100 people at random what RLT stands for, and 99.9 will have no idea. They know what a "Co." is, but to most folks "RLT" sounds like this week's special at Wendy's, or a high-performance Dodge Charger. On the other hand, a trust is a trust. "Revokable Living" is a descriptive term that tells you how the trust was structured, but it adds no relevant information. It's sorta like the sex, age or cultural heritage of an individual. For an individual registration of an NFA item, you are not required to engrave, "HJ Simpson, a 46-year-old French-American Male" ... thus both "Revokable Living" and "RLT" add irrelevant information while not meeting the intent or standards of the engraving. As always, Your Mileage May Vary. |
