| I saw that Tactical Innovations has Multi Caliber marked on their SBR registered lowers. Would I be able to do this to? I thought ATF was rejecting mutli-caliber/length registrations? |
So that means if I don't like my 11.5 I can sell it off, get a 10.5 and not have to worry about paperwork or notifying the ATF? |
If you decide to make a permanent change in barrel length here is no paperwork, forms or prior approval required. However, BATFE requests that you notify them in writing of any such changes. The usual way is to write them a letter saying you are the registered owner of NFA item ABC, SN 123, and that the barrel length of record has been changed to xx.x". Send it in duplicate and ask them to stamp one copy as "received" and return that copy to you. It's nice to have a CYA document should any LE ever ask why your SBR does not meet the listed spex. A little background: 1. AFAIK, there is no law requiring that you notify BATFE of such changes. 2. BATFE, however, is required by law to maintain the NFA Registry to the highest possible levels of accuracy. So when they state that you must notify them of such changes, they are fulfilling their legal obligation as Registry custodians. I can see no reason for an NFA owner not to take a few minutes, write a letter and invest a 40-cent stamp to notify them. It fulfills BATFE's request, and it's the sort of detail that can help if your NFA ownership is ever questioned by LE. |
He's 99.99999% right in that post - but don't use a 40 cent stamp! It won't get there. |
