I know that if you obtain your SBR through a trust then you must engrave the name of your trust, city, state on the lower, but if you do it by means of a form 1 do you have to engrave your name, city, state on the lower?

Yes.

The name of the person/legal entity which makes and initially registers an NFA item must engrave his name/city/state. This is done via a Form 1 for an unlicensed applicant or via a Form 2 for a licensed firearms manufacturer.

Whether the applicant is an individual, corp, LLC or trust (or even an LE agency) has no bearing -- all must engrave their name/city/state.

However, when you purchase an NFA item which has already been registered, via a Form 4 or Form 5, there is no need for the new owner to engrave the firearm.

I haven't been able to find any specific guidelines about this from the BATF, does anyone know where I could find them?

Well, you can start by reading our own NFA FAQ, here: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=17&t=199928

Next, download and study BATFE's 200+-page NFA handbook, in this link: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=17&t=221573

Or you can just read attorney James Bardwell's NFA FAQ here: www.titleii.com/BardwellOLD/nfa_faq.txt

Finally, you can get an idea of how BATFE interprets (and prosecutes under) NFA law by reading their various opinions here, most of which I have memorized: www.titleii.com/BardwellOLD/law.html

If that sounds like too much effort, remember that knowledge is the only thing that keeps NFA owners from accidentally winding up in federal prison. If it seems like too much work, you can just stick to Title 1 firearms, which is BATFE's goal in establishing this nightmare buraucracy.

I appreciate your response, but I have gone through most of that material already and have yet to find anything specifically about engraving SBR recievers

27 CFR 479.102

Please refer to section 479.102(a)(2).  You are the "maker" and the SBR is the "firearm".  The term "firearm" includes SBRs, SBSs, AOWs, MGs, suppressors, and DDs for purposes of section 479 (which is the section of the Code of Federal Regulations that lays out the regulations necessary to enforce the National Firearms Act (26 U.S.C. Chapter 53).
