Just a little FYI for any of you who live in Kansas. It looks like they are trying to pass a bill to make Machine Guns and Silencers legal in Kansas. So far, it looks like things are going well. Here is the link http://www.kake.com/news/headlines/17099901.html. I've been waiting for this law to pass since I was about 13. Thank God I'm only 23. Just old enough to start enjoying it. Individuals could own machine guns, other fully automatic firearms, sawed-off shotguns and silencers under a bill the House has passed. The vote today was 105-to-18. *WOOT!!!* The measure is the House's version of a Senate-passed bill making it a felony to deface or remove serial numbers or other identifying marks on a firearm. A House committee wanted to rewrite a state law limiting the possession of silencers, sawed-off shotguns and automatic weapons. In December, the attorney general had issued a legal opinion saying part of the law is so restrictive that only law enforcement agencies can possess silencers -- meaning no dealer can have them in Kansas, even to deliver to those agencies. In amending the Senate bill, the House committee decided to make it legal for individuals to own such guns. But they would still have to comply with federal laws requiring background checks. The House's change will become an issue when the two chambers negotiate over the final version of the bill. |

Yes, congratulations on your State's progress! My home State (Michigan) went from Curio and Relic only to allowing Pre-1986 "transferables" on 12/27/05. I never thought that it would happen here, but then again I didn't think we would ever become a "shall issue" CCW State either. As advised, keep the pressure on your lawmakers, because anything is possible. ETA: Michigan still does not allow NON-Curio and Relic Short Barreled Shotguns (SBS) or Short Barreled Rifles (SBR), nor are silencers allowed. Silencers *might* eventually become legal here under the same interpretation which allowed machineguns, but SBR and SBS are specifically outlawed.

Awesome, they had originally drafted legislation that even Law Enforcement agencies couldn't possess them. (So you wouldn't be able to shoot the dog silently) Not a problem we have in Kansas haha. But I'm stoked about this I've always wanted to own one but was never able to. |
It sucks that the only reason this is being brought up in your state is that dealers are affected as opposed to a restriction of the civilian population's rights.. But good luck! Now all you gotta do is pony up the $$ |

I heard this stalled in the senate, I've googled my heart out and don't find much past what the original poster posted. Anyone have any further information. ETA: http://www.kpoa.org/weekly_updates/2008/KPOA_Bills_of_Interest_Feb_29_2008.pdf
Whats up w/ that? |
Post Samples (MG's made after May 1986) are for LE/GOV/MIL (or FFL's under very limited conditions) only- they are not for civilians. |
Head on over to the KS/NEB HTF we have been keeping this topic updated whenever new info is available. The bill has passed both house and senate and is on the governors desk presently. A couple FFL/SOT in our state who have been involved with this since the start have been keeping us informed. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=44&t=303801&page=1 BTW you can go the the ks leg site and see the whole history of the bill. www.kslegislature.org/legsrv-billtrack/index.do The bill is SB46 BTW |
