What do I need to do to notify the ATF of a permanent change to my SBR? I'm changing uppers and selling the original. Thanks Mike |
That's incorrect. If you permenantly modify the firearm from it's registered status (which is what the OP is suggesting), you are supposed to send an ammendment letter to NFA branch specifying the new specs. Include a second copy, and ask that they return it to you with a "Recieved by ATF" stamper mark on it. |

How do they know what is original on an SBR. I have filled out the papers, but I have no idea what the upper is going to be and neither do they. I understand if you are changing a MG or something. I am not arguing, just really want to clear this up so that I don't make a dumb mistake. BIGFOOT |

It is an AR 9mm. I currently have a 9.25" barrel on it and that is what is listed on the form 1. I am changing to a 10.5" factory upper and selling the 9.25". I understand that if I kept the 9.25" I would have to do nothing but since I am alterint the barrel length permanently I have to notify them of the change correct? Thanks for all the input I just want to do it right. |
