Is there any legal way you can convert a le6920 to full auto. If so how much would this cost, meaning stamp, license, etc. If you are not able to do this how much does it cost to buy a stamp to purchase a weapon that is already automatic.

It is not legal to convert anything to automatic unless you are an SOT.  Said firearm would not be transferable to anyone except LEO/MIL with the proper paperwork.

To purchase a pre 86 registered NFA item would require a Form 4 and a $200 tax stamp to the ATF.

So it would be a total cost of 200, how long is that stamp good for.

It is a one time tax on the transfer of an NFA item.  That is assuming the item in question is transferred from a dealer in your state on a Form 3 or from another resident of your state on a Form 4.  If you purchase an NFA item from a private party out of state, there are two tax stamps involved.  Sometimes the other party will pay the first transfer, sometimes they won't.

Hypothetically if someone owned a pre 86 automatic weapon that wasnt registered ,in your state, could you legally purchase it.

If it is not in the NFA registry it is a federal felony to possess.

Could they register it.

Negative.  Unless, by some very small chance, there was another amnesty registration period.

So there would be no way to legalize the gun.

None at all.  If it was something unique I think it could be dewatted and donated to a museum.

If a legal full auto conversion was something you wanted then going with the Colt made it harder and more expensive.

With any AR15 type gun to convert you would need to buy a registered Drop In Auto Sear, $12,000, then mill out the sear block area in the receiver, then have a set of M16 hammer/trigger custom drilled out to match the oversized pins in your rifle.  Your gun does come with the full auto bolt carrier so you saved $150 there.

So if legal in your area you could get it running for around $13,000.

You could buy an original Colt M16 in the same price range, or some other brand of converted gun ready to go for around $10,000
