I am a resident of a state that allows a few, but not all, classes of Title II firearms.  I formed a trust based in this state to purchase a silencer, as my local CLEOs are not receptive to signing Form 4s.

When I formed the trust, which is by itself a legal entity, it allowed me to specify an address where this legal entity resides.  This raises a big question in my mind:

Could I form a trust, with a real address in another state where the trust's property would be stored, that would be able to purchase Title II firearms that are legal in that state?  Can I oversee that trust's affairs while being a resident of another state?  Would this work if substantial steps are taken to secure the firearms in question against access by anyone other than the trustees?

Good question. I know that in the BATFE's FAQ they state if you move to a state that does not allow a certain NFA item, you can leave it in the original state secured in a manner that only you have access to.

BTT in case anyone else has looked into this idea.
