Just sent off my First Form 4 for a Silencer.

It arrived at BATFE in Chicago today at 12:30. How do I know when it is "pending"? What exactly does that mean?

I know the last thing I want to do is start bombarding the examiners with phone calls, so I figured I would ask you guys who have done this a time or two.

Just call and ask. The nice ladies who answer the phone and check your status are hired to do so. They are NOT examiners.

From an NFA examiner:

If you call the main NFA phone number - 304-616-4500 - you will get one of our customer service reps. They were hired to ANSWER THE PHONE, and that is one of their only jobs. They take the routine calls - checking status, is it in the system, how long is it taking these days...etc. So, if you call and ONLY speak to them, you are not taking up an examiners time at all. If the customer service reps can not answer the question and/or there is a problem with the application, you are then forwarded to the examiner handling the transfer. This too, is not a real problem, as it probably helps get the issues resolved.
