| Does it matter if the lower is marked in a different caliber than what I am registering it in? |
I've heard of members here having their Form 1s kicked back for listing multiple calibers and then some members say they listed multiple cals and their Form 1s were approved. I listed just .223/5.56...it was approved...then I sent BATFE a letter stating that I would be using varying length uppers and multiple calibers. Addendum was added to my file. |
Correct, forgot about that. What I meant to say is do NOT list multiple calibers in the "caliber" blank. Dan said that other configurations (length, caliber, etc.) can be listed in 4h. |
What is the difference between listing them on the original form 1 or waiting and sending in a letter after the fact? Just talked to ATF/NFA and they said they would probably reject my application but I could include a letter with the form 1 that states I would like to use additional calibers/uppers and that would be fine. Only one caliber can be listed on your form 1 according to them. Thanks for the information above. Just didn't want anything sent back to me and delay things. |
If you talked to someone from BATFE/NFA then that should suffice...just make sure you list that person's name as a POC (just in case). I went through the SBR FAQ section and read posts from individuals who's Form 1 had been rejected for listing multiple calibers...so I chose to list one specific caliber...get the Form 1 approved without any delays...then submitted an addendum. Do what works for you. I know what you mean about delays....can be very frustrating...Good Luck. |
A post on here by "NFA Dan" (a BATFE employee who works on approving these things) said "you got lucky" in response to a post like yours in another thread. Yes, yours went through without a hitch. Others get rejected and sent back for it. Since there is no reason to do it and you have everything to lose and nothing to gain by doing it, why list multiple calibers and lengths? At best, you'll slip one through and get it approved. At worst, your Form 1 will get kicked back and you'll have wasted a month waiting for nothing. |
