I picked up a Remington zouave that I was told was 50cal but as it was an auction I am not sure, the bore seems to be 9/16 which seems to me like 50 cal plus patch?

I need a mould for it but want to double check my bore first.

Fitting is sloppyish so I will be tweaking the wood.

This is the first modern sidelock I have ever owned.

It is most probably a .58,

Never heard of a .50, the seller didn't know what he had.

So now I need to find a mould. The bits that fit the rod. A short starter. EBay best bet?

You do not need a short starter,

Civil War Era Muskets were not meant to shoot patched round balls. You need to get a Minnie Ball mould and size your bullets .001 - .002 smaller than your bore size for the best accuracy.

So the twist will handle Minnie balls? Some sites were saying ball only. The rifling like nothing I have seen before. This is an Italian reproduction.

Most of the early Italian Remington copies were made by Antonio Zoli,
