loaded up my new pietta (bought used though) to go shoot a cylinder before class tomorrow. I noticed one  ball will creep forward a little with just a little .

Its just a little and its with 20 grains of powder so maybe with 30 it wouldn't? I got a little sliver of lead with every ball too.

Any advice?

Maybe a larger diameter ball?

Lead was shaved off evenly on a .454 ball. What would a larger ball accomplish?

if its creeping you need a biger ball. Should not be creeping if you have the correct size.

Lead was shaved off evenly on a .454 ball. What would a larger ball accomplish?
Maybe a harder ball.  Are you casting your own?

A larger ball would have more surface area contacting the cylinder wall.  One of them geometry thangs.

Thicker band of lead shaved = more contact with the cylinder walls. .454 and .457 are both common sizes and there seems to not be a standard among repro revolver makers. Even among the same makers different runs may vary on cylinder diameter. Mic your cylinder mouths and see that (1) they are all uniform in diameter and (2) what is that diameter so the proper sized ball can be used.
