Does anyone know how to make a blank round for a .44 Cal Black Powder pistol? And does anyone make a sort of Snap Cap for the nipples on a BP pistol?

I use to be a civil war re-enactor and over the years I tried a few different ways. I ended up sticking with this one, step one- load the charge I forget exactly what I used I think it was between 20 and 30 grains. do not use more powder then the pistol manufacturer recomends step two- ram home the charge with a sheet cork wad ( you can get sheet cork from most auto parts stores for making gaskets) use a 45 ACP or LC spent case to cut the cork. re-enacting rules did not allow the use of felt "wonder wads" as the could cuse injury (I had a .44 cal scar from one for years, why do all the cool scars fade?) Step three- seal all the clyinders, I use to use the wax from a toilet sealing wax ring (can be found at home desperate or a hardware store) I never had a chain fire useing this type of wax. some people used peanut butter, axel grease or TC maxi lube ect. NEVER FIRE BLANKS DIRECTLY AT A PERSON AND ALWAYS TREAT A GUN LOADED WITH BLANKS AS IF IT WAS LOADED WITH LIVE BULLETS. | Thank you so much for the comeback. I once saw some wild claim about using the old cereal, Cream of Wheat, as a good plug in front of a regular BP charge to make a good blank! Anyone heard of that one? I've also wondered why there aren't any kind of Snap Cap type of protectors for BP nipples. |
| I use this method. It is the safest as it will not create a projectile, unlike the cork plug in the previous post. Fill chamber about 3/4 full of powder. Then fill to the top with cream of wheat. Use the pistol loading leaver to compress the cream of wheat and powder. This works well in colt and Remington repros. You will need to use some type of a chamber loading device if you are using a Starr or LeMatt |
