Wife's Grandfather (passed) received as a gift when he worked in Pakistan (1960's).  His wife was going to just sell....  Anyways here are the pics:

Any help is appreciated.

Also looking for care instructions to better preserve.

Here is one more.  I believe the date says 1735 or 1739

Possibly an antique but also possibly a wall hanger made for tourists and made to look old, or some of both.

It's a Jezail. It also appears to have the lock from an EIC Brown Bess, so at least part of it is quite old (late 1700s)... assuming the lock is legit (and it might not be).

As MVolkJ said, it's a Jezail.  I've bought and sold a few over the years and yours looks legit.  Normally, the ones made for tourists will have a fake barrel made out of a conduit type pipe, be less intricate, and/or a cheesy fake lock.  Your barrel most likely has hand cut rifling.  Be careful with it as the wrist is normally a weak point  in the stock.

Thank you to everybody!  Couple questions:

Can / should this be repaired?

What is a good way to store this as to preserve the gun?

Do you know approximately what is would be worth (assuming legit)?

Just leave it alone. Too many unknowns when it comes to Afghan guns.

Agreed. Get some oil on the metal and leave it at that. These have value in the decorations and not so much in the functionality. They're wall-hangers.

As to value, it's modest at best. $150-200, probably, and it might take a while to see it.
