I came across this 1937 Model 62 today at my LGS. It seemed a bit odd at first glance and that's when I noticed the barrel had been shortened to 18.25" and re-crowned!
Funny how you miss the obvious sometimes, 4.75" worth of missing barrel should have been noticeable right off the bat!
OK I just had to have it so I gave it a good going over and found it to be sound with a very nice bore, it functioned fine with dummy rounds, and there were no stock/forearm cracks. $175.00 later it was mine. A bit much maybe but it "talked to me."
Seems it was in Britain for a while and came back looking at the proofs. I can't say if it got chopped here or overseas.
As collector value is nill due to the chop job I'll do a complete refinish on it and replace the front sight.
Taken down it fits perfectly in a 23" Skinner Sight flat bag. At only 4.5 pounds and 35" overall it should be a very handy shooter.

I was actually thinking about chopping a rescued Stevens 75 in the same manner but could not bring myself to do it. Glad I found this pump to lead me away from temptation.

Thats neat. 18" is about all you need anyway, as there really aren't velocity gains past that barrel length with 22LR;

Nice, that would have been $400 here, but nothing like that ends up in our shops around these parts.

I'd have been all over that at that price. I'm sure it would sell for considerably more here.

chop or not. they are great guns. my grandfathers model 61 was my first hunting rifle. rabbits galore in west Texas.
I now own it. will be passed down again someday pre war 15K serial range. condition horrible but shoots great.
