| Guys, please fogive my ignorance on this. I want to get a couple of Mosins, just more or less to just eff around with. What kind of accuracy are you guys getting after a good cleaning, with open sights on these things? I have no illusions or hopes that they are awesome, but what kind of groups are you guys getting at say 100? Thanks for the info. |
| It's gonna depend on the specific rifle and ammo used, but just because these rifles are relatively cheap doesn't mean they are junk. I have a 91/30 that from a rest will do about 1.5-1.75 inches @ 100yrds. I've seen some that have trouble keeping over twice that. Others here will know more about the issue than me and can give you a more detailed answer, but that's the short version. |

I can shoot 2.0-3.0 moa with my 91/30, irons only.
With a scout-style scope mounted, the same gun can shoot 1.0-1.5 moa. Gun has no modifications except for the scope, and all I shoot is Russian surplus ammunition (which I have found is remarkably consistent ammo). |
| Thanks guys. Like I said, I don't hope or think that they are gonna light the world on fire. I was just going to get a couple for just screwing around with. Just taking to the ranch, and possibly shooting a pig or 5, some range, and just general blasting. Ammo is cheap enough, and if I could get 3" @ 100 yards, that would be plenty great for any uses I would need. |

I have three
1930 tula 91/30 - 12" groups at 100. Not good 1933 tula 91/30 - 4" groups at 100. pretty decent. ? year chinese type 53. 3-4" at 100. rifle looks terrible but shoots well. (these are what friends have done with them, I suck with iron sights so my results are even worse) |

The limiting factor is not just the relatively crude rifles, it's the surplus steel cased machine gun ammo 98% of us are shooting. The ammo itself is not capable of stellar accuracy regardless of the rifle it's fired through.
With most Mosins, and most ammo, as in "this is an average" ... expect 4-6 MOA, realistically. Also, most people on Arfcom have no concept of making a statistically accurate measurement of accuracy. |

As for the Mosins, yeah I also agree they don't come MK262 ammo, and quality isn't there in that area. Actually 5'' at 100, would really be acceptable for me. I have sub MOA guns, this is just a beater, fun rifle. And for whatever reason, I am excited to get one. |

It's got just as good, if not better QA/QC than Lake City match 30-06 of the era. |
