| My recommendation would be to try getting an original 10 round box mag back into it. Those aftermarket mags never really seem to fit right to me unless you do a lot of fitting and smoothing work to operate properly. By getting an original 10 round box (I think they're relatively cheap) from one of the multiple sources out there - Numrich, Sarco, etc, you can check and see if you have proper orientation and fit. If that solves your problem and you want to put the 30 round mag back on, check and see the differences between spacing on the original vs. the 30 rounder and (eek) mod to fit. HTH. |

Another option besides the original factory 10 rounders is that they made 20 round fixes mags too. They aren't as easy to find, but unlike the 3rd party detachable mags the milsurp 20 round fixes ones seem to be as completely reliable as the original 10 rounders.

Anyone ever ran a detachable mag and it operate decent? |

The 20rnd mags were commercial and no where near as reliable as the factory 10rnd mag. Tried them and would never go back. |

Seems like the concensus is, any external mag blows on the sks lol ![]() Pretty much, yeah. I've owned multiple SKSs in the past, including a Yugo, a Romanian, an honest to God Russian and ChiComs. I tried the 30 rounders on the Yugo and the ChiCom and never had any real success - in fact, on the Yugo I just gave up ever trying to ever really fit it because it was that bad. The ChiCom wasn't terrible, but it did have feeding issues and never really sat right. Now that I've aged a bit more, I've found that I really like the original look of the SKS and I don't actually "need" 30 rounds in a mag for it. I've also pared down my SKS collection to a single ChiCom as well. Dang. Should've thought that one through some more. |

The one that I have has the Chinese star emblem on it and is made exactly like the original mag except for being larger. I bought it at the same time I bought the SKS around 1989-1990. It is nothing like the typical commercial SKS mags and has never jammed on me once even when feeding it the cheapest Chinese and Russian ammo I could find... I don't doubt there were probably commercial copies of the Chinese 20 round mags that weren't as good though... |

Take capitalist magazine of swindle, throw down range and use for target. Then buy proper magazine made by triumphant Soviet workers. Is simple.. You read my post and you learn. |
