I'm watching an internet auction offering a Smith Cprona 03A3. It has a scant stock with no visible stamps and looks freshly parked. The pictures show a barrel marking ".30-06". I don't ever recall seeing a caliber marking stamped on a 03A3. Does that sound odd?

Don't recall that, either.  Do the pix show the USGI barrel markings that are supposed to be near the front sight?

No. The pics do not show the month and year stamp. I don't know if that's because the date stamp isn't there or if they just didn't show it in the pics.

Sounds like a replacement commercial barrel.

Probably not the original stock either , as I recall Smith Corona's should be in a straight stock not a scant one.

A very small number of 03-A4s were fitted with scant stocks as original equipment due to shortages of the C-stock, but any scant stock on an 03-A3 is a replacement, yes.

S stock is the norm for the 03A3
