| I'm going to a gun show tomorrow and am interested in buying my first SKS. Just looking for some tips on price and what to look for or stay away from. Russian better than Chinese or yugo? I live in communist ny and that's where the show is so I don't know what will be available or if panic pricing will be in full effect. I'm looking for something nice that I'll shoot on occasion but doesn't have to be super collectable. Looking to spend no more than $250-$300 max. |

Best of luck finding one for that price right now that hasn't been a boat oar for the past 20 years. |
| If you find one in decent shape for the price you are talking about it would be a great deal. I would expect to pay $300-$400. Russians are considered more desirable by some and would fetch a higher price. Then probably the Chinese. Yugos have a rep as being decent rifles but they don't have a chrome lined barrel which makes them less desirable. Good luck in your search. |

Are you far from on of ny borders ?
if so look in Pa/Vt/Ct might be a better option at a local store. I was in cabelas last Monday on my to work in Maryland. It looked like the store was going out of business the selves were empty but they did have some M&P's ar's in i know we cant own them anymore in nys more of reason to get out of NYS, but you might have a better chance of finding and sks at a local store there. |

I've sold two recently (Chi-Com) for $425.00 each. Both were like new commercial versions. Good luck finding one that ain't crapped out for much less.
If folks will recall during the last panic Chi-Com SKSs hit the $300.00 mark and pretty much stayed there for new looking commercial examples. I don't care for Yugo SKSs unless it's the plain M59. The 59/66 is way to heavy for what it is and the barrels are not chrome lined. Some can have gas system issues too. I'd only buy a Yugo 59/66 in "unissued" condirtion. |

I just picked up my second SKS today. It is a Chinese with all matching numbers and spike bayonet. $250 is what I paid. The guy I bought it from was originally selling a Yugo still covered in cosmoline for $295. That one sold before I could get there. Ended up with the Chinese.
I really wanted the Yugo to add to my collection. |
| Well, I went this morning, saw a few for $400 that looked like termites lived in the stocks and then saw a few real nice Chinese ones for- get ready- $900. Unbelievable!!! I remember back about 10-12 yrs ago I turned my nose up to the sks, I'm regretting that now. |

| LE can still buy and own one. I found a Yugo online that is still dripping with cosmoline and with all matching numbers that will cost me about $400 shipped with tax. What do you guys think of that? I think it's a fair price for what I've seen out there. Also I have a question, are the Yugos the only ones that have the granade launcher and sites? It seems that they are the only ones I see with them. Sorry for all of the rookie questions, I appreciate your responses. |

It isn't the cheapest I've seen, but not the most expensive either, and if they will ship to NY, it may be about your only option. Yes, only Yugo SKSs have the grenade launcher setup, and only some of them. The earlier models didn't have it yet. |
