Im selling off some firearms for my grandfather to get new tires on his ford model A
and Im not to sure how to price the springfield trapdoor he gave me to list.
Its in good shape, lockup on the action is like a vault and everything is there except the kit in the buttstock.
From what i can gather it was made in 1892 [via the cartouche]
The finish is still good from what i can see. I wasnt able to clean it up an before the photo's but there is a patina to it and some of the original finish has worn.
slight surface rust in a few spots but it looked like that would come off with a heavy rub with a oiled cloth.
has the ramrod style bayonet.
I wasnt able to measure the barrel since i didnt know I should until i started doing a little research.
I could not see any rust of pitting in the barrel, looked very clear with sharp rifling, there was alittle carbon build up but assume once cleaned it would be very clear.

The lighting in some ph the photo's made the finish look worse then it is in person and the lighting was a little hard to get the stocks markings but I think I got everything of importance

here are some photo's... anyone have a price range I should be asking for it, they seem to go anywhere $from 600-$2000 ?

As you already know, its a ramrod bayonet rifle and that matches the serial no. range so I don't think its a parts gun.   The CMP sold many of these in the 50's in excellent condition so that may be why its in such good shape.  Definitely don't do any more than rub an oily rag on it.  I just got a Trapdoor with excellent blue on the barrel and somebody tried to remove some rust patches with a fingernail file or something!  My rifle still has dried cosmoline in the cartridge loading area.   I'd say its worth whatever somebody is willing to pay, price it high, at least $1500.
