How are the current Mosins that are here right now. I have not had one of these for about 4-5 years. I would like to pick one up, but I want one with a good bore. The last few I got from Aim, the bores were perfect. But that was before. The dark strong rifling scares me.

Don't let dark rifling scare you.  These are used guns.

Some of my best shooters (Finns) are dark frosted bores.

I bought a 1946 Izzy M44 last year that looks like it just came out of the factory. The last few M91/30's that my local gunshop has had have been beautiful as well. They are still out there!

I just bought a 91/30 Laminate from AIM last week. I paid the extra $10 for hand pick and I received a 1938 Tula with an excellent bore.

I am also a "Bore Whore".  I don't care how rough the gun looks outside, I want a nice bright bore.

Most C&R stuff I go to a show or store and handpick for bore condition.

Another poster is right,  sometimes those worn bores shoot good.   I have a Russian capture 98k that will shoot 2" groups at 100 yards.  Bore is dark with very worn rifling.

I picked up a M44 about three weeks ago that had a bore which might have been made last week more than 60+ years ago.

I believe it was a current import based on who I purchased it from.

M44s shipments have pretty well dryed up as well as hex recivers and finnish and east block mosins, so if you see any of those for a reasonable price at a gun show you might want to pick them up. A bunch of t53s hit the market not to long ago which are almost identical to m44s they tend to show a lot or ware but are still reasonable shooters. The 91/30 round recivers are still pretty much identical to the same quality they have been since 4-5 years ago. Perwars and post wars tend to be better quality, when war time. Overall they still tend to be hit or miss, but at their price you can get a few and keep the one you like :)
