ETA: It's pretty much ready to go!

I'll make some improvements to the printable reports, but everything else is pretty much implemented.

Here's the thread on latest version (currently 0.9.3): http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=1252871

ETA: I've made some improvements to the reports. A tiny bit more polishing may be in order, but you can always do a "mail merge" type of print out via ATFquery Spreadsheet, if PRINTquery seems a bit too bare.

============================
I'm making one.

It will use OpenOffice/LibreOffice Base (similar to MS Access, but free for Windows, Mac, etc.). I'm making it because I intend to get a C&R license, and would rather keep my records electronically.

I started a thread in General Discussion about it here, so if you have any comments or suggestions, they'd be much appreciated!

It is free and will remain free. I'm mostly making it for my own purposes, but if anyone else gets some use out of it, great.

I hope to make it comply with the ATF electronic bound book requirements, and anticipate that it will. Anyhow, if you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

I just d/l'd your program and open office to try out.  I have been using a old collector data base program but it's not atfe legal.  It's going to take a couple of all nighters to transfer everything

Thanks for the effort you put into this.

WHOA. Hold it right there.

Don't go transferring things yet, unless it's just a small sample to test things out!!!

ETA: My version won't be ATFE compatible until 1.0.

OK.

Can I install the program on a flash drive?  I like to keep a copy in a deposit box.

Yep! Except you'd probably just put the data on the flash drive, since OpenOffice can be downloaded whenever.

Update:

v0.2.0 that doesn't attempt to implement ATF requirements, is now available: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=1247288

v0.8.0 that does attempt to implement ATF requirements is also available: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=1252871

I probably won't update 0.2 any more, but I think it's good enough for just a personal collection without specific audit trail requirements, etc.

0.8 will eventually progress to v1.0, which is when I'll start using it as my electronic bound book (after I get my C&R license). As it stands, I think it implements all the ATF requirements. Let me know if you have any suggestions or find anything wrong with it! I'll be updating the database and sharing it at the second link above.

Just to clarify...

You'd probably copy the gun.odb file and the gun folder to a flash drive or CD/DVD.
