What's the difference between No.4's with the grooved upper handguard and the non grooved? Besides the grooves of course.

| Yep - that's the answer. Production shortcuts. As the war dragged on you saw a lot of shortcuts being taken and cruder parts being used. Fazakerley even used parts that were slightly out of spec on some rifles and just stamped them with an "A" suffix behind the serial number to indicate that they used non-interchangeable parts, just to get rifles out the door. |
