i am going to order a M1 carbine from the CMP are all the rifles show the same wear and use in the service grade catagory or is it better to drive to camp perry and pick out a rifle?
also does anyone know when the BAVARIA MARKED carbines will be availbe for purchase? |

It's always better to hand pick. Not all CMP SG rifles and carbines are equal. Some are stellar, but while all will meet the minimum requirements for each grade, some are prettier and/or more "correct" than others. By hand picking, you can assure that you get a gun that is visually pleasing, has the features you find important, and can head off disappointment by selecting your gun. FWIW, I've never hand picked a CMP gun, and have been happy with everything they sent. I have friends who were disappointed that their stocks were dinged up, or cosmoline soaked, etc. There's no guarantee that the gun sent from CMP will be good looking; only that it will be functional. |

The grade you order will be no worse condition than the description, sometimes better. Read the description and expect exactly taht, if you get something better it will be a bonus
If you can handpick do so, its worth spending a few hours going through all the racks of rifles |

Check the cmp forums to see what they actually have on their shelves that week before making the trip to the store. ^This^ I was checking their forums for weeks before my trip, so I knew what to expect when I got there. They didn't have the Garands I REALLY wanted.. soI settled for one that looked and gauged very nice. I'm already planning the 7hr drive again next summer. |

I have only been to the NS on Saturdays. The M1s are usually pilfered within the first half hour. |
