In MN visiting Grandma this week.  She moved last year and found some of my Grandpa's old guns while cleaning out the old house.  One of them is an old Enfield with a date of 1916 on it.  It looks like a sport model and Gradma said Grandpa used it for deer hunting.  I did some searching but I can't seem to figure out any specs on the rifle.  Any info you can provide on this rifle will be greatly appreciated.  This is by far the oldest gun in my safe and I don't know much about Enfield's or the 303.

Here are the photos.  Send me a PM if you need the whole SN to ID.

Thanks

That is simply a sporterized No1 mkIII* made by the Birmingham Small Arms company in 1916. Those are some really great rifles. If you look around you can find a stock set to bring it back to military configuration if you want to.

The issued rear sight was removed as well. I'd just keep that as a plinker or parts donor. I've shot a few like that, they make a great beater or truck gun.

charger bridge has also been cut off during sporterization...there is no going back to military config, enjoy as is...it will still make you a decent shooter.
